Event details

Following their brilliant gig here in 2023 we are delighted to be welcoming Kroke back to The Apex with their exquisite mix of modern Polish music, klezmer, contemporary jazz and chamber classical music.

They will perform a 'best of' the band’s most popular songs from a stunning 30-year career.

Formed in 1992 by three friends - Tomasz Kukrba, Jerzy Bawof and Tomasz Lato - graduates of the Academy of Music in Krakow, Kroke have honed a totally unique style which has led to collaboration invitations with renowned international artists and delighted audiences the world over, appearing at some of the world's most prestigious music festivals.

In 1993 Steven Spielberg invited the band to Jerusalem to perform at the Survivor's Reunion ceremony. An invitation to play WOMAD UK led to recording sessions with Peter Gabriel at Real World, and Kroke's subsequent appearance on his Long Walk Home album, the soundtrack for the 2002 film Rabbit-Proof Fence. The Secrets of The Life Tree piece, performed by Kroke, featured on the soundtrack of David Lynch movie Inland Empire, and a meeting with Nigel Kennedy resulted in a joint work – the East Meets East album (2003).

"What drags me into Kroke’s music so successfully is this spiritual reality they have... it’s honesty and sincerity in their music.” - Nigel Kennedy

“Kroke live are a hair-raisingly brilliant, unforgettable experience.” - Jon Lusk, BBC Radio 3

“Kroke, a klezmer band from Poland are gems... they move beyond the rumbustious towards an epic sound that’s sometimes histrionic but also deeply moving. To boot, they are the coolest-looking act in town” - Womad On Kroke
