Aurora’s performances of whole symphonies from memory have become one of the most talked-about initiatives in classical music over recent years, electrifying audiences across the globe with their immediacy and virtuosity.

For this special performance, the orchestra harnesses the extraordinary potential of playing without sheet music or music stands to give a unique look under the skin of Beethoven’s 'Eroica' symphony, with player movement (and even audience participation!) used to give us a richer understanding and appreciation of this masterpiece.

Tom Service joins Principal Conductor Nicholas Collon to present this special performance, originally developed for the BBC Proms in 2016.

Expect sparks to fly at this unmissable festival opening concert, which includes an opportunity to experience Beethoven’s music from physically inside the orchestra.

This event features a 35-minute presentation on Beethoven’s Eroica, with musical excerpts and spoken word, followed by a complete performance of the symphony from memory in the second half.
