An initiative of the British education charity, Hands Up Project - Moon Tell Me Truth is a travelling exhibition that features art and poetry created by Gazan children aged 9-15 years, and published in the aforenamed book with foreword by award winning poet, Alice Oswald.
The exhibition has been touring venues across the United Kingdom and we are honored to be able to exhibit this extraordinary selection of poems in Bury St Edmunds.
Tragically, most students featured in the exhibition are now displaced and their schools have been damaged or destroyed during the war on Gaza.
Two students were killed by Israeli airstrikes in October 2023 – Obada Mohammad Abu Oda, 14, and Fatema Saidam, 9. Fatema’s poem, ''Eyes are for looking'' has been translated and shared all over the world.
''Eyes are for looking
And seeing sun
Tongues are for greeting
And saying fun
Legs are for walking slowly
And also run
Hands are for shaking with friends
Not for shooting gun.''
Opening hours:
Mondays to Saturdays - 9.30am-4.30pm and Sundays 10.30am-4pm
Occasionally, the Art Gallery is closed to the public. If you are travelling specifically to see an exhibition, please call the box office on 01284 758000 before your visit.
The Apex Gallery is situated on the first floor. Drinks bought from the cafe in the foyer can be taken upstairs, so feel free to relax on the sofas with a drink and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
